How Ketto Contributed To Global Citizen India’s Massive Movement

From Chris Martin singing ‘Maa tujhe salaam’ to Prime Minister Narendra Modi quoting Bob Dylan in his video call, around 80,000 music lovers saw it all at the grandest and brightest event of the year on November 19 – India’s first ever Global Citizen Festival.

Along with being an exceptional music festival, this was also one of the most powerful events when it comes to driving social change and people’s participation. More than 5 lakh global citizens, Bollywood and international celebrities, business and political leaders collectively pledged to end extreme poverty by 2030 – by working towards sustainable goals of quality education, gender equality and water, sanitation & hygiene (WASH).

Through our partnership with Global Citizen India, we gave people another way of earning tickets – we encouraged them to support the pre-defined sustainable development goals by raising funds for 3 resourceful non-profits that work towards those causes – WaterAid India (Water & Sanitation Hygiene), Miracle Foundation (Quality Education) and Oxfam India (Gender Equality). People who successfully raised funds walked away with 4 free tickets and of course, a lot of good karma.

With help from about 4500 global citizens, we’ve raised Rs. 11,96,466 in total. Here’s our commitment to each sustainable development goal.

global-citizen-india-infographic-2

The Global Citizen Festival India gathered immense support – 2,000,000 ‘actions journeys’ were completed and an amount of $5.93B (Rs. 40,500 crore) was secured to create a positive impact on 503M lives.

Festival’s impact includes 25 commitments and announcements from policymakers responding to ‘actions journeys’ and campaign efforts. Among the commitments are International Finance Corporation Banking on Women Group’s $2 billion promoting women entrepreneurship by end of 2017, 48 mobile classrooms from HP giving access to quality education and technology over 6 years, Toilet Board Coalition for improved access to sanitation and hygiene for 130 million people by 2020, IDFC Bank’s proposal to provide 200,000 micro-finance loans for water sanitation to reach 900,000 people by the end of 2019, Tata group chairman Ratan Tata committed Rs. 300 crore from Tata Trusts over the next two years for water and sanitation programmes and many more.

Now that’s a huge deal! We’re super proud to have contributed to this global movement in our own way.

We’re hoping to see these promising commitments turn into beautiful success stories for not just India but for the world. Here’s to a world without extreme poverty by 2030! Celebrate this first step in that direction by sharing it with everybody.

4 Fundraising Ideas For Non-profit Organizations

If you’re a non-profit that’s constantly thinking of revolutionary ideas to bring about a positive change in India or even the world, let’s face it – you’re going to need funds throughout the year. Asking for donations in the exact same manner can become monotonous and uninspiring.

How can you make fundraising interesting as well as exciting for your supporters so they don’t just like to be a part of it but actually spread the word among their loved ones? What can help you get funds to do justice to the work your non-profit does? Here are 4 fundraising ideas to inspire your non-profit organization’s next fundraising activity:

Birthday Fundraising:

Why: Everybody loves the idea of doing something meaningful on their birthdays. It’s a great day to get your supporters to go beyond cutting cakes and actually make a difference to the world, or someone’s world by supporting a cause they care about!

fundraising ideas birthdays

How: Encourage your most active supporters to start a fundraiser for your non-profit on Ketto and instead of accepting gifts, ask them to accept contributions to their fundraisers. At Ketto, we’ve seen wonderful initiatives started by campaigners – for instance, Neelesh Mishra, a Bollywood lyricist raised funds for Bharatiya Gramin Vidyalaya on his daughter Vaidehi’s first birthday. He wanted her birthday to have a positive impact on the lives of underprivileged children in Uttar Pradesh. His fundraiser managed to raise Rs. 2,65,034 – what a wonderful way to begin a new year!

Partner With Companies:

Why: Companies are constantly looking to involve employees in activities that are meaningful as well as fun. This builds a positive relationship between employees and managers and also ensures long-term commitment. Since some companies are required to dedicate 2% of their net profit to social development, they are always open to the idea of partnering with non-profits.

fundraising ideas companies

How: Encourage the company whose brand values are aligned with your non-profit to start a fundraiser for a cause you support and they feel strongly for. Companies can set a target for all employees to work towards collectively. For instance, Action Aid got Cactus Communications, a Mumbai based organization to raise funds for providing dry ration & water to families in Latur. They divided their company into 6 teams and collectively raised Rs. 6,00,072 for the cause.

In The News:

Why: Tragic incidents like Nepal earthquake, Chennai floods or the recent URI attacks have immense power to unite people leaving them with a strong urge to help the situation in their own way. Everybody wants to contribute to the cause and what’s better than supporting the non-profit that’s helping the affected people on the ground.

fundraising ideas news

How: At the time of crisis, your non-profit can identify the gap it can fill and raise funds for that – giving people a chance to donate to your fundraiser. For example, Goonj raised funds to provide water purifying tablets, sanitation/cleaning material, utensils, school material and mats/bed sheets to people affected by Chennai floods. Goonj managed to raise a whopping amount of Rs. 23,63,920 for the welfare of people affected by Chennai floods.

Charity Events:

Why: Your non-profit may be doing charity events, but if you carefully analyse the supporters you have and observe the kind of things they like, your fundraising activity can be way more effective. For instance, based on your analysis, you can arrange for a music concert, a charity run or even a football match.

fundraising ideas events

How: Identify what you want the event to be – invite your supporters to be a part of it and let all the money raised by their involvement go to your cause. It can either be raised by asking supporters to buy their entry passes or by making them take an action that spreads awareness about the cause your non-profit supports. If majority of your supporters are music lovers, you could do what Magic India Foundation & United We Are Foundation did – they joined hands with DJ Hardwell with a primary objective to unite the world of electronic music in order to make a real difference – bringing Indian children out of poverty by nurturing them on a journey from childhood to livelihood. All the proceeds went to the non-profits for the education and welfare of children in India.

How The Generation That’s Always Chasing Time Can Do Good

We’re a fast paced, impatient generation.

We like our cabs picking up fast, our pizza getting delivered quickly and our internet connection only at 4G – anything that’s not fast is not good enough. In this ‘insta’ obsessed generation, here’s a perfect way to help a cause or a person, especially when we have an intent to help but struggle to find the time to do so.

We bring to you four causes that you can make a difference to by donating to their fundraiser on Ketto, right now and that too in a matter of just 3 minutes!

Virtually Parent These Adorable Puppies:

Read only if: You’re the kind of person who loves to pet and feed stray dogs wherever you go and you find yourself always looking out for them.

Being an ardent animal lover, Smita knew she couldn’t leave the 8 puppies she spotted at a dangerous construction site all by themselves. With support from Janm Foundation, she rescued them and has already found homes for 3 of them.

Now she needs Rs. 3,500 every month to look after the other puppies’ nutrition, vaccination and even adoption. An amount as small as Rs. 200 will make a lot of difference – donate to help her find a home for these puppies.

Bring This Graffiti Artist Back On His Feet:

Read only if: Art and artists inspire you and you would like to help this young graffiti artist get his chemotherapy sessions done.

From a mechanical engineer to a graffiti artist filmed by the popular energy drink Red Bull, Karitkey’s story has been truly inspiring. After braving a lot of financial and emotional struggles in his career path, he decided to start his own art firm with his partners. Sadly, the day he decided to sign the papers and get his firm registered, he was diagnosed positive with Stage 4 – Hodgkin Lymphoma.

He is currently undergoing chemotherapy at Navy Hospital, Colaba and need funds for continuous sessions – donate to help him in his battle against cancer.

Help Her Represent India On An Expedition To Antarctica:

Read only if: You’re passionate about protection of the environment and sensitive towards concepts like climate change, usage of polythene bags, carbon footprint etc.

screenshot_5

A young passionate girl Bhavna has been selected to represent India at the Leadership with an edge program, part of International Antarctic Expedition 2017. The purpose for the expedition is to engage and inspire the next generation of leaders to take responsibility to build resilient communities and in doing so, preserve Antarctica. This unique initiative encompasses leadership, the environment, education and survival.

This once in a lifetime opportunity comes at a cost. She needs Rs. 10,00,000 for the expedition fee, air travel, extreme weather clothing and equipment – donate to send her to Antarctica!

Gift Drinking Water To Slum-Dwellers:

Read Only If: You believe that safe, clean drinking water is not a privilege and everyone deserves it.

screenshot_3

Manya and Sana have taken a pledge to provide pure drinking water to slum-dwellers in and around Delhi and Gurgaon. People living in these slums are subject to various waterborne diseases, caused primarily by drinking untreated water that is mixed with chemicals and other impurities. Lack of alternatives leaves them with no choice but to drink this water.

By contributing as little as Rs. 1,500 you can gift a family life – donate to provide water filters in the homes of the less fortunate.

There’s no better way of using 3 minutes of your life than making an impact on the causes that you believe in. If you ended up donating to any of the causes mentioned above, we’re sure you’ll agree.

Crowdfunding: An aberration in the landscape of fundraising for charitable causes?

At a time when India is making rapid strides to the moon and having other technological advancements, a fraction of the society is still underprivileged. While many a times, we see the government support them, it’s majorly the philanthropic institutions and charities that are trying to help the cause.

Did you know, in our country, there exist approximately 32 lakh NGOs striving to make our society a better living place for the less privileged? Since most of these non-profits exist in the remote areas of our country, their effort goes in vain. So, how can we get them in picture?

To make it a smoother ride for such non-profits, crowdsourcing, one of the oldest process of soliciting contributions from a large group of people from an online community, proves to be a boon. Of all the innovative advances in the online methods of raising funds, the most remarkable has to be the upsurge of online fundraising websites including India’s largest fundraising platform – Ketto.

Check out how charities can support their mission on Ketto – quickly and efficiently!

Ketto multiplies force

Crowd funding on Ketto multiplies the effort to help the needy by gathering a large number of people from varying sectors of society. One person cannot be the change. We, as human beings, need to have complete unanimity in order to bring a revolution. The largest fundraising platform in India does exactly that!

‘Cause crowdfunding on Ketto is cool, fast and efficient

With times changing, outlooks too have undergone a paradigm shift. Processes are no different. Today, when the youth is driven by  the fast and cool lifestyle, the concept of obtaining monetary support online for a cause has hit a home run. It is one of the coolest, and not to mention, the fastest way to gather funds for a cause.

While some organizations and people prefer doing it through live crowdfunding shows, Ketto provides you an online platform to reach a larger number of masses in seconds. Undoubtedly, making it the most resourceful manner of raising funds online.

Charitable causes demand attention

Look at it this way. While crowdfunding is not a cent percent success all the time, it does accomplish a major purpose of educating the masses about the nation’s social issues.

Even if a person doesn’t donate, a little bit of chatter around the subject is most likely to result into a greater support for a cause from his/her friends, family and the extended chain.

Wait no more, start a campaign!

Charities have been constantly working day-in and day-out to solve various problems pertaining in our society. We have an endless list of concerns to look after. It’s time you take the initiative.

Crowdfunding education on Ketto: An online revolution lifting burden from NGOs and individuals

Ever thought how different life would have been, had your parents not sent you to a school? We are definitely fortunate enough to have had a stable educational journey. But, not everyone is as lucky as the educated minority–as us! You wish life was that easy on those underprivileged, who are gifted with the same amount of brains, but are never pushed across the boundary, due to lack of funds.

That has spurred several charities and NGOs to take a notice of our youth’s living rawness. Though the landscape seems to be changing, but at a snail’s pace, you would agree. We need more, much more. Perhaps raising money from a large number of people usually in small increments, via the Internet might help?

Crowdfunding essentially. Just imagine the magnitude of impact it can possibly create if our population of 1.5 billion decide to come along to increase the literacy rate? (That massive number… Woah!)

Crowdfunding is for anyone and everyone

In this materialistic world, dreams are expensive. Especially the ones that involve education. Gone are those days when crowdfunding used to be an alien concept: to learn as well as to execute. With the advent of internet, it’s become much easier. Almost anyone and everyone can start a campaign on our website to raise funds in support of the marginalised of the society as well as for themselves.

We have already talked how crowdfunding – the new kid on the block is proving to be an effective tool. Remember Shweta Katti’s story? (A girl, born and raised in the red light area of Mumbai, was sent to the USA by raising funds for her education on our platform). There are more of such examples that have changed lives. Let it be your turn to start a campaign next.

How does Ketto help in the execution of the cool concept of crowdfunding?

Whether you are an NGO supporting education as your cause, or a student who needs funds to pay that pesky tuition fee, Ketto is the platform for what you’re looking for to fund everything from paper and crayons to tomorrow’s next big discovery.

When we say, crowdfunding is an easy and productive method to raise funds from a large number of mass, we mean it.

You ask, how? We give you the answer:

  • Crowdfunding helps you pay in-full for education by spreading the costs among numerous contributors all over the world (less stress)
  • Instead of graduating with thousands and lakhs of rupees of student debt, students can choose to use Ketto to fund college and graduate school. It completely slashes out bank loan as an option (relief, right?!)
  • It doesn’t cost a penny on Ketto, you can simply start your campaign by signing up on our website
  • It’s as easy as Facebook, no kidding! (If you still find it difficult, Team Ketto is there to help, don’t worry!)

India, as a developing country has seen movements like Teach for India taking our country by a storm in recent times. Just like TFI, there exists a massive number of NGOs which are striving hard to make a visible difference in the life of children living in rural areas.

Education is deemed to be the primary concern for our nation. As they say: Padhega India to Badhega India (Education is the key to India’s success). It’s time to cheer up, buck up and fire up your dream to go abroad for higher education, or give the underprivileged their right to education. It’s time you grab your key to tomorrow on Ketto.

Why the 21st Century is Ideal for NGOs

Non-profits of the 21st century are pretty lucky to have social media tools to help them raise funds. Gone are the days when fundraising was a laborious, expensive task that required marketing agencies and fat advertising budgets. Things are easier, cheaper and more do-it-yourself now. It takes less manpower, less time and significantly less money to raise funds today. And it’s all thanks to social crowdfunding websites.

How does it work? Simple. All that’s required is an online crowdfunding platform to put up information about your campaign and the tools of social media to raise more awareness about it. Going online to fundraise may be a dubious concept for some NGOs but what everyone needs to know is that crowdfunding is an effective method to raise funds and awareness. Sure, it figures at 10% of overall funds raised when compared to offline fundraising’s hefty 90%. But the fact is that crowdfunding is a fairly new phenomenon that is growing exponentially.

Using 21st-century tool scan greatly aids fundraisers in several ways:

  • The cost of fundraising is greatly reduced
  • More funds reach where they rightly should – the underprivileged
  • An organisation’s supporter base multiplies
  • This also translates to raising more awareness about the cause and the non-profit

How does the supporter-base increase? Simple. Each campaigner is advised to not only reach out to their own network via social media but is urged to ask their network to spread the word as well. This means that, firstly, if a campaigner posts about their campaign on Facebook, asking them to spread the word further, a large number of his Facebook friends will read and learn about it. Some will help spread the word, which leads to a chain reaction with each person spreading the word to their own network.

In fact, organizations are advised to have a strong online presence to help their fundraising efforts. They must have:

  • A website that is mobile-friendly
  • Tools that allow for online contributions
  • Send out periodic e-newsletters
  • Have a Facebook page

Add to these the tool of social crowdfunding and you just cannot lose! At Ketto, organisations are not only encourages to start their own campaigns, but are advised to urge their supporters to start campaigns for their non- profit as well. So what’s the process? The form on our website needs to be filled and submitted and the word needs to be spread via social media. We send guidelines and marketing tips at every stage via email that if followed, almost guarantee a successful campaign!

How? Well, we are the ideal online crowdfunding platform in India for NGOs!ngos

Newsworthy! (Ketto in the media)

The media is buzzing about the busy bees at Ketto!

Ketto has had some fascinating campaigns recently! There are several people raising funds for Khabar Lahariya, a rural-run, local-language, all-female newspaper that is making path-breaking strides in the field of news journalism. You’ve got to check out the images on all their pages! Stunning, if we say so ourselves!

It’s also marathon season, with the 2014 Airtel Hyderabad Marathon just around the corner (24th August). Several marathoners have chosen to start campaigns and raise funds for their favourite charities, and we support them all the way!

Bollywood joined the crowdfunding bandwagon in a big way this month! Celebrities like Aamir Khan, Imran Khan, Salman Khan, Hrithik Roshan, Abhishek Bachchan and several others came together to ‘Bend it Like Bollywood’ at a charity football game organized by Tigi Foundation, an NGO for the welfare of animals, founded by psychoanalyst Nuzhat Khan. The campaign had some exciting rewards to offer its supporters, and we’re thrilled fans of Bollywood took advantage of them!

With so much happening at Ketto, it isn’t surprising that the media wanted the scoop on our latest news and campaigns. Do check out the interesting interview of Ketto Co-Founder Kunal Kapoor, reported by The Hindu.
