The floods in Jammu & Kashmir have caused massive devastation to the state of Jammu and Kashmir. Hundreds of thousands of people have been affected by the natural disaster. Homes have been destroyed, submerged or washed away. Lives have been lost, including some very young ones. Schools, workplaces, hospitals…so much has been obliterated. J&K will have to rebuild everything brick by brick once again, to get back on its feet. People will have to start from scratch to build their homes again, to build their lives back.
But this is still a far cry from the situation at present. Right now, what the people of J&K desperately need is the very basics – food, water, clothing, hygiene products like toothbrushes, sanitary pads etc., and shelter.
The people of India have heard this cry for help. They have come together to stand by their countrymen and lend a helping hand. Celebrities like Hrithik Roshan, Abhishek Bachchan, Varun Dhawan, Dia Mirza and Ketto’s Kunal Kapoor have all kick-started fundraisers on Ketto to raise funds for the hundreds of thousands of people hit by the floods. Nargis Fakhri has begun a birthday fundraiser dedicated to J&K. And these campaigns are all drawing strength from the people of India who want to not just help their favourite celebrity reach their fundraising goal, but who want to help their brethren in their time of need.
In fact, several have reached out to Ketto and begun campaigns of their own to help raise more funds for the people of J&K. At present, there are 19 active campaigns raising funds to help J&K get back on its feet. A total of Rs 19,51,290 has been raised so far and we still have a long way to go.
Ketto has partnered with the NGO CARE India to help get funds to where they are most needed. CARE India has been involved in humanitarian efforts in our country for over 60 years and is armed a skilled response system to rehabilitate J&K.
Kunal Kapoor has stated, “Being the co-founder of Ketto, a crowdfunding website for social causes, I’ve had my finger on the pulse of humanitarian efforts for a few years now. It was only natural for Ketto to join in the relief efforts underway in Jammu & Kashmir. Ketto chose to partner with CARE India specifically because of their well-planned disaster response. With Ketto supporting the fundraising and CARE India spearheading the relief efforts, we hope to send the people of Jammu & Kashmir the help they so urgently need.”
